From the temple legends, it is believed that Goddess Padmavathi (Deity in the temple) was the consort of Goddess Lakshmi. MaharshiBhrigu insulted Lord Vishnu, husband to Goddess Lakshmi which made her angry. Due to this, she went to PatalaLoka where she dipped herself in the water for 12 years. During the Kartika month, in the 13th year, Goddess Lakshmi got out of the lotus flower in water in the form of Goddess Padmavathi. People come to the temple to get blessings from Deity Padmavathi.

The Padmavathi Ammavari temple has amazing and beautiful architecture. The temple was built in the 16th century by King Thondaman under the styles of Chola, Pallava, and Vijayana. It consists of the following:

v  Temple courtyard.

v  Ashirwada Mandapam has 16 pillars of Mandapam with 4 feet height.

v  Dswajastambha Mandapam consists of 36 pillars. It has 6 rows with Bangaru balipeetham.

v  Kalyanotsava Mandapam which is performed for Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Padmavathi.

v  Mukha Mandapam comprises four pillars Mandapam on the platform. This is where temple rituals are performed.

v  Archana Mandapam is where the Garuda, Viswaksena, granite, and Panchaloha idols are kept.

v  Antharalam Mandapam is guarded by Balakini and Vanamalini.

v  The sanctum is where the idol of deity Padmavathi is installed.

v  Shanti Nilayam is where the seven kalasha are found.
